RE: your post about white authors writing POC characters: I'm a white author, and I write plenty of POC characters. The way I see it, it's a non-issue: people are people, regardless of race. It's about the individual, not his or her race in general. If the individual is fussed about their race, then yes, make it a big deal. Go on a character-by-character basis and evaluate their own feelings on their race and race in general.
Yeah, that was mostly what I was planning on doing. I was doing some poking around and found a talk on male authors writing female characters. At some point it was stated that ‘you’re writing character, not gender’
I would assume the same applies to any other non-chosen characteristic. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
